Sspomitapi is located within Treaty 6 territory and within the Métis homelands and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4. We acknowledge that Sspomitapi includes the area belonging to and violently stolen from the Papaschase First Nation. We also acknowledge this land as the traditional gathering place for many Indigenous People, including the Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuliné (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Anishinabae (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot). We honour and respect the history, languages, ceremonies, and culture of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit who call this territory home. We honour the ancestors and children who have been buried here and the missing and murdered Indigenous women and men. This acknowledgment reminds us that we are all treaty people, and that we all have a responsibility to one another and this land.
